Lakes & Reservoirs Around Durango

Lakes & Reservoirs Around Durango

We are blessed with many spots to fish and boat.  Three lakes in particular are especially nice and all 3 are within an hours drive or less of Durango.

Navajo Lake  On the border of New Mexico and Colorado it is southeast of Durango and due south of Ignacio.

Vallecito Lake  This used to be the second largest body of water in Colorado until the McPhee Reservoir was built several years ago.  Gorgeous setting amidst the tall spruce and ponderosa pines.  A truly alpine setting.   Excellent for both boating and fishing.

McPhee Reservoir  With the completion of this lake in the 90’s, SW colorado now sports the second and third largest bodies of water in the state.  Located an hour’s drive from Durango in Dolores, this is a lake with many canyons.  Very good fishing and boating.

Other area lakes include Lemon Reservoir located west of Vallecito Lake.

Electra Lake, privately owned but open for a limited number of public fishing and boating permits per day.  This is about 5 miles south of Purgatory.

Haviland Lake is south of Electra lake and has public campgrounds, great views and good fishing.

Pastorious Reservoir is quite small but has been know as a locals fishing hole at times.  It is located SE of Durango about 10 miles.
